 Diabetes, Art & More!

Pet Adoption

I'm Patty, and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 12. I just got an insulin pump in November of 2011. What a difference! No more 7-8 shots a day, and a lot less hassle. With that problem solved, one more comes to mind...

What to do with all my left over insulin pump supplies?!

I hate to just toss the supplies, (the Mio cases, reservoirs, strips, strip cases, lancets and more)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I incorporate the supplies into all of my art! From jewelry, to paintings and more....

I have recycled, and found a great use for the insulin pump supplies!

All supplies have been sterilized and recycled.

Bracelets and more fun lil' things, can always be  personalized with any awareness, support or rescue! All items are hand made, with Medtronic insulin pump supplies. Bracelets will stretch and are made approx. at 7-7.5 inches.

About Insulin Pumps...

An insulin pump is a small device about the size of a cell phone that is worn and can be hidden under your clothes. It delivers precise doses of rapid-acting insulin to closely match your body’s needs. This has taken the place of my 7 shots a day, that I used to do from December of 1995 to November of 2011. My older sister, Angie, also has Type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1986 at the age of 7.  She has also just recently got on an insulin pump as well. I did it, simply because I saw how much it did for her.

So for both of us, small amounts of insulin is delivered continuously (24/7) for normal functions of the body (not including food). This replaces your long-acting insulin. Additional insulin you program “on demand” to match the food you are going to eat or to correct a high blood sugar. For example, for myself- for every 11 carbs in a food, it is programmed to give me 1 unit of insulin. If I eat lunch or breakfast, I MUST know the carb amount first. I then program that amount into the pump, and it automatically does the rest :) All personal settings are set when you first recieve the pump. These settings constantly change according to stress levels, weight gain/loss, activities, etc.,

Below: An example of some of the supplies that I use in my art. A video off youtube that explains the pump and all its supplies.
